Let the Competition Begin!

This beauty was created by Holly Abston.

At the end of August, Paper Crown is having a big event- an eighth birthday! What does every 8 year old want but a BIG celebration. There will be birthday themed classes, cake and party favors, presents- for you our Paper Crown customers a Big Sale on our birthday weekend and of course, some games and a little competition!

One of the first things anyone new to Paper Crown comments on is our wonderful crown collection lining the walls of the store. We had that first crown contest 7 years ago when we moved to our current location and changed our name to "Paper Crown." The crowns are looking a little tired so I decided a new Crown contest would be a great creative way to celebrate our 8th birthday.

Rules are simple, come by the store and pick up your crown form- or use your own- and Create! Crowns will be due Saturday, August  24th  and the winner announced the weekend of our Fall Retreat with Debby Schuh, Sept. 6. Grand prize winner will get a $100 gift certificate to use for products at your favorite art store Paper Crown.  We would appreciate it if you would let us use your crown to decorate he store.

Those of you from out of town can also join in the fun. Crown entries can be mailed to
Paper Crown, 9303 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.

Thank you for helping us celebrate 8 wonderful years in business!

Fall Retreat with Debby Schuh

I promised some great creative opportunities this fall and here is the first- we decided to go big! Join the Paper Crown the weekend of Sept. 6th & 7th for four wonderful classes with the talented Debbie Schuh. Think of it as the first day of art school; why should our kiddos get all the excitement and fun. Debbie will be holding two classes on Friday, Sept. 6th and two on Saturday, Sept. 7th. For all you OU fans, you will be done in time to head down to Norman for the night game. It will be a great opportunity for all of our local and out of town followers to enjoy a special weekend of crafting with fellow artists, fantastic discounted shopping for retreat attendees, the best treats in town and the chance to experience a retreat where you are treated like a queen.

I met Debbie years ago at Silver Bella; I actually think I had purchased Paper Crown just a few months prior to our meeting. You will enjoy her friendly, welcoming personality and be amazed at the projects she is teaching. Debby is a frequent teacher at some of my very favorite scrapbook stores from coast to coast. Here is a short bio so you can get to know Debby better-

Debby can’t remember a time when she wasn’t tucking her photos and all kinds of “stuff” into scrapbooks… she still has her scrapbook from when she was two years old! After teaching school for many years and working as a staff designer for Anna Griffin, Debby now shares her love of  memory-keeping and story-telling with students at stores and events around the world. Her class projects are known for their clever techniques, design details, and meaningful themes. She says she is most gratified when her students are inspired to fill their creations with their own stories and photos and treasures – to usethe projects they’ve made!

In addition to a busy teaching and traveling schedule, Debby has had her designs published in many books and magazines through the years and is the author of the book Kids Scrapbooking… Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Debby feels incredibly blessed to do what she loves – travel the world and meet wonderful people, do a little shopping along the way, and share her passion for preserving our stories and our treasures. She lives near Buffalo, New York, with her husband David. Their two sons are living on opposite sides of the US now… one in California and the other in the Army, stationed in Virginia.

You can read more about Debby’s classes and adventures on her blog at debbyschuh.typepad.com.

As you can see we are so very lucky to have Debby at Paper Crown and am glad we get to introduce her to our talented Paper Crown customers and our "Oklahoma spirit."

Little Me
 Friday, Sept. 6th
1-4pm
Debby, $60.00

If you could go back in time and give advice to the little girl you once were, what would you tell her? What stories from your life would help her know that things were going to be all right in the end? What advice would you give her? What insights could you share? This nostalgic little journal will be a special place to keep those thoughts and stories.

Using a Tim Holtz Worn Book cover and ring binder with the gorgeous Trousseau Collection from 7gypsies, we’ll make pages and pockets and even our own vintage-looking papers to fill our 4” x 7” journals. A photo of you as a little girl will be featured on the cover of your book and will remind you to appreciate the woman you have become.

Of course, the album can be used for anything you’d like – It would make a lovely wedding or baby album or for any pretty pictures you’d like to use. It would also be a perfect gift for someone special!

Student Supply List: Please bring the following items to class… 12” paper trimmer, pencil, ruler, scoring tool, scissors, strong tape adhesive, regular tape runner adhesive, Crop a Dile, Distress Ink – Vintage Photo, ink blending tool, non-stick craft mat, sanding tool, a special small button about ½” or less to use on the front cover of the album, a picture of yourself as a child for the oval frame opening which is 1 ½” x 2 ½” (other pictures will be available to use), foam squares, Glossy Accents or glue dots, scallop scissors or border punch.

Oklahoma Keepsake Album
Friday, Sept. 6th
5:30-8:30
Debby, $75.00

Bear with me ladies- this is an exclusive class for Paper Crown and therefore we don't have a stock picture. Use your imaginations, it will be Oklahoma. Those of you from TX will be able to do this album. We will have our own Red River battle- I think I will have to do both!

Debby Schuh has designed a special class just for Paper Crown! You will create a beautiful Oklahoma Keepsake album that is perfect for all your photos and memorabilia of the Sooner state. Using a fabulous screen-printed and embroidered Oklahoma tea towel, we’ll make a 10 ½” square album full of pockets and pages and textures that will house all your favorite photos and memories of our great state. Your kit will be filled (to overflowing!!) with products and choices for you to use as you assemble your album in class. You’ll have a huge amount of product leftover to add to your album through the years. This one of a kind album makes a wonderful gift for yourself or someone special.
This is a custom, limited edition class – Debby is making a very limited number of kits. If you cannot attend class that day, the kit will contain the directions with color photos to follow to do the kit on your own.

Debby, 70.00

We are all “collectors of memories” and “dreamers of dreams,” aren’t we? In this delightful class Debby will show you step by step how to transform Tim Holtz’s new Configuration Book into a darling “suitcase” where you can keep treasured mementos and record the stories of the special moments that you want to remember.

Your kit will contain a variety of papers to customize the look of your 12” x 9” suitcase. The sample shows a vibrant color choice in the lively “Liberty” fabric style, but there are other prints in your kit to choose from that are more subdued, if that is your preference. Inside your suitcase, the choices are practically limitless! You can customize the arrangement of the boxes inside your case, personalize the trinkets you place in each section, and choose the papers that you will feature in the removable album we’ll make for inside our case. We will even make a second darling little album out of windowed envelopes – it’s so cute! Each will person receive a full 10 yard roll of washi tape to frame the edges of your case as well as other products from the Maggie Holmes collection from American Crafts, the Basic Grey Mint Julep collection, and more from 9 different companies.

Student Supply List: Please bring the following items to class… 12” paper trimmer, pencil, ruler, scoring tool, scissors, strong ½” tape adhesive, regular tape runner adhesive, Crop a Dile, Distress Ink – Vintage Photo, ink blending tool, non-stick craft mat, sanding tool, foam squares, Glossy Accents or other strong liquid adhesive, rub-on tool or popsicle stick, and a favorite charm to hang is one little section of your “suitcase.”

With a mix of whimsy and vintage design elements, you’ll have lots of creative opportunities for customizing your book and plenty of leftover products in your kit to use as you complete your album with your photos and mementos.

Treats- BIG and small

I wanted to let you all know we have a BIG treat in store for the fall. All the specifics will be posted on Sunday but you would be a smart girl to mark off your calendars for Sept 6 & 7. It won't be a treat but a RETREAT with this talented artist, Debbie Schuh.

Mom duties are calling today but I promise all the scoop will be revealed on Sunday and I guarantee you will not want to miss. For those of you out of town that have been looking for an excuse to come to OKC to experience Paper Crown- this is it! I know you will love the special "okie" class Debbie is doing just for the Paper Crown.

Until Sunday here is a little treat that arrived yesterday. It is the perfect vintage bday line complete with the sweetest embellishments. More to come out next week. I believe Paper Crown is the only distributor of this line in OK so come and get it and be the envy of your friends.

Wait until you see the paper dolls that go with this line. It is definitely a trip down memory lane for this girl of the 60's.

Have a great weekend and stop by to see all the new art goodies that arrived this week.

Thanks to Jackie and the girls at the travel journal class last night. It was nice to have things back to normal and so glad Jackie is feeling better!

Summer Class Run Down

Believe it or not I am already planning classes and events through the end of the year. Seems this year is flying by faster than usual. This Fall is shaping up to be a full and creative season with some celebrating, guest artists, shopping extravaganza and of course, Glitter Market. Here is a run down of the classes we have for the remainder of the summer. As always, your class fee includes all supplies and you simply need to call the store to reserve your class spot. When it is warm and humid outside the classroom at Paper Crown is a great place to be.

Sunday Drive in the Country

Sunday Austin and I took a little Sunday drive in the country. I'm probably showing my age but growing up I can remember doing this with my parents on Sunday afternoons. My sister and I hated it but it was better than the alternative- an afternoon nap. What I wouldn't give for that now; we weren't  very smart kiddos- or just needed a different perspective.

Actually we took Hutton down to her camp in the TX hill country and decided to take a little country side trip on the way home.

These are passion flowers. It was my mom's favorite and grew like crazy on the farm where she grew up.

It was a perfect afternoon for a little peace and quiet- and some dreaming. Only down side, Lexie came home with a coat of stickers which I picked out on that long ride to the city.

Enjoy this beautiful day and our lovely weather. What a summer treat!
